Talent Development
Talent development in YHSS
We value development of students who demonstrate talent and willingness to explore different subject areas further. Our departments curate different talent development programmes to develop a community of learners within our school who can flourish.
Science Talent Development Programme
The Science Talent Development Programme was pioneered in 2025 with the Secondary 2 cohort offering G3 Math and G3 Science with the dual objectives:
· To develop 21st century competencies (with emphasis on critical, adaptive and inventive thinking geared towards problem solving) and scientific literacy (with emphasis on data-based decision making) among students of high learning readiness for Science
· To expose students to concepts and practical activities that will allow them exposure to Science as applied in our lives, fostering greater civic literacy and appreciation for the role of Science in our lives
Mathematics Talent Development Programme
The Mathematics Talent Development Programme was initiated in 2025 for the students with high learning readiness for Mathematics. Students were engaged in the learning of higher-order thinking and advanced concepts beyond the syllabus through weekly lessons after school to prepare them to cope with mathematical content of higher rigour in Upper Secondary.
The objectives of the Programme are to:
Deepen Advanced Skills and Knowledge
Provide students
with opportunities to explore advanced mathematical and scientific concepts
beyond the standard curriculum, fostering critical thinking and analytical
reasoning.
Promote Collaborative and Peer Learning
Cultivate teamwork and leadership skills through group activities, discussions,
and projects, enabling students to learn from and support one another in
their academic growth.
Build Confidence and a Growth Mindset
Challenge students with intellectually stimulating tasks to build resilience,
perseverance, and confidence in tackling complex and unfamiliar problems.
Humanities Docents Programme
The Humanities Docents Programme aims to nurture passionate and capable Humanities learners through a structured and enriching learning journey. Anchored on the Framework, ‘Awaken Interest, Cultivate Skills, Engage in Action’, the programme provides opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of Humanities-related issues while developing essential skills and dispositions to contribute meaningfully to school and society.
